Meet The Team
Christopher Wright
PARTNER
Christopher Wright was born and educated in Cairns. He moved to Brisbane to study Law at the University of Queensland before returning to Cairns to commence his articles of clerkship.
He has been an admitted Solicitor for over 35 years and has been at Murray & Lyons for nearly that long.
Chris is an Accredited Specialist in Family Law and heads up the firm’s Family Law Section. Chris is an Independent Children’s Lawyer and has a keen interest in complex child disputes and property matters. Chris frequently appears in the Federal Circuit and Family Court as a solicitor advocate and provides a knowledgeable, caring and empathetic approach to representing his clients.
Chris is the proud father of 3 children, with his son Matthew Wright now a solicitor with the firm.
Martin Treston
PARTNER
Martin Treston was admitted to the partnership on the 1st of January 2005. Born and raised in the Innisfail district, he obtained his Law degree at the University of Queensland and was admitted as a solicitor on 3 February 1997. Martin recently achieved the milestone of 25 years as an admitted solicitor in Queensland.
Martin is the commercial partner of the firm. His areas of practice include conveyancing, commercial transactions, commercial disputes, wills and estate planning, estate administration and estate litigation. Martin has a special interest in estate planning and business succession for rural and farming businesses and families in North Queensland.
Martin brings a common-sense approach to dealing with complex commercial issues backed by years of experience and a strong theoretical background.
Martin’s daughter Hannah Treston is now a part-time law clerk with the firm finishing her law degree.
Charis Lux
SENIOR ASSOCIATE
Charis Lux was born in Cairns and educated in Mareeba, obtaining a Bachelor of Laws with Honours from James Cook University, Cairns. Admitted to practice in 2011, Charis has practiced as a solicitor with Murray & Lyons Solicitors for over a decade, being appointed Senior Associate in 2019.
Charis practices in a wide range of legal areas but is particularly passionate about Wills and Estates and Commercial Law. Charis is frequently involved in complex family law property matters where she combines her knowledge and strengths from both family law and commercial areas of practice.
Outside of work, Charis is an avid gardener and aquarist.
Matthew Wright
SOLICITOR
Matthew was admitted as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland on 10 December 2021 after completing a degree in Law and a degree in Marketing at Queensland University of Technology.
Matthew practices in conveyancing and family law assisting the partners.
Matthew was born and bred in Cairns and has an active social, sporting and cultural life outside of work. Matthew was the captain of the local Barron Trinity Rugby Union team and is often seen playing a lead role in Cairns Choral Society Productions where he displays his exceptional acting and singing talents.
Hannah Treston
LAW CLERK
Hannah is currently completing her Bachelor of Laws at James Cook University, Cairns. Hannah is a qualified Dentist and hopes to merge her worlds to become a Medicolegal specialist.
Hannah is enjoying the challenge of learning from her father and colleagues. Hannah thinks the family touch we provide at Murray & Lyons is why our clients are clients for life.
Out of work hours, you’ll find Hannah at the JCU library or supporting Cairns’ nightlife.
